Roses 2015: Opening Ceremony

Friday, 24 Apr 2015 - 18:00

Description

The rivalry between York and Lancaster has a long history, full of conflict. Stemming from the War of the Roses that caused decades of civil war in the fifteenth century, this fierce rivalry lives on in the form of the largest inter-university sports tournament in Europe.

In April 2015, these two universities will clash for the 51st time in a three day sporting spectacle of the utmost magnitude. Join URY & Bailrigg for coverage of all the events throughout the weekend.

50 sports. 132 fixtures. Hundreds of competitors. Thousands of spectators. One trophy. The history books record a narrow lead to York, possessing 25 overall Roses victories to Lancaster's 24.

The Carter James trophy currently lies across the Pennines in the hands of the Red Rose of Lancashire. The time approaches to reclaim it for Yorkshire and the White Rose!

This year, #RosesAreWhite.
