Official Proposal for University Radio York radio show.
Presenters: Students Jack Machen and Ned Weston (current second year undergraduates).
As second years we have both shared our interest in creating our own radio show, and we believe there is no better place than the university's own station! The place we see as the upcoming home for 'It only ends in Tiers': The Radio Show (logo can be seen on the left).
Purpose: In visual media, such as YouTube, the popularity of seeing people's perspectives on how they rank specific topics has boomed in recent years. What is known as 'tier lists' or 'tier-ranking' has been generated from the ranking website 'https://tiermaker.com/' in which any individual can create any type of tier list for others to rank. This is what the main segment of each hour-long episode will be focused on.
A video by YouTuber Jack Edwards called 'tier-ranking every classic book (so you know which ones to read)' was uploaded one month ago, as of this proposal, and has racked up over 700,000 user views. Moreover, a YouTube video by a controversial political commentator Ben Shapiro named 'U.S. Presidents Tier Ranking!' has generated over 3,000,000 views in one year (that being said, none of our episodes will be focused on controversial topics such as this, and opinions will purposely be debated via critical analysis, and neither argument will be seen as right or wrong to highlight our professionalism).
We will allow listeners to get involved via call-in or messaging, so they feel listened to and so they can contribute to the 'tier-ranking'.
Music will be focused on whatever the topic of the week may be.
Guest speakers will be featured as the show develops.
Two-hour shows are in consideration depending on the success of season one.
Radio Show Description: Join second-year students Jack Machen and Ned Weston as they rank everything you could possibly think of! Whether it's UK popular food franchises, such as a cheeky Nando's or a classic Greggs sausage roll, or whether it's favourite movies of all time! No matter the topic, 'it only ends in tiers'.
You can also get involved! Stay tuned to find out how.
Interested Timeslot/s: Evenings other than Tuesday’s, Wednesday’s, and Fridays (preferably either Monday’s, Thursday’s, Saturday’s, or Sunday’s).
