Here is a quick overview of how to use the Studio 1 phone.

Answering

  1. The strobe light on the Studio 1 wall facing Studio 2 will start flashing to let you know that the phone is ringing. (As you might expect from a studio phone, there is no ringer.)
  2. Make sure that the PHONE fader is turned down and the HOLD button is off (not glowing red).
  3. When an opportunity presents itself, pick up the phone (it is on your left on the studio desk). Make sure you have enough time left on any song currently playing to answer the person on the other end.
  4. At this stage, the caller is not on air. You can now talk to the caller in private.

Putting the caller on air

  1. If you want the caller to be put on air, first follow the above steps.
  2. Let the caller know that you are about to put them on air and to keep on the line.
  3. Press the HOLD button on the PHONE fader so that it is on (glowing red).
  4. Put the phone handset on the hook. If all is well, the caller will still be connected and will now be hearing the studio output.
  5. When ready, fade the PHONE fader up. The caller is now going out on air.
  6. Make sure to zero the phone fader and turn hold off after the call.

Problems?

This howto was written from memory by someone who hasn't used the phone all that often, so there may be a few niggles with the above description. Do feel free to jump in and amend it.
