This is a tutorial on uploading podcasts to the URYPlayer system.

Temporary method using the website admin

Currently there is no MyURY/Members Internal module for uploading podcasts, so the main way to upload them is the same way Computing do them. Don't worry - this process will get simpler and simpler as the website matures, and may be replaced with a more user-friendly manner later.

  1. Log into members internal (or any other URY service).
This is a temporary step and eventually won't be needed.
  2. Go to ury.york.ac.uk/admin. If you did the first step correctly the system should recognise you.
  3. Go to uryplayer -> Podcasts -> Add.
If you do not see this or are denied access, email Computing Team so they can give you podcasting permissions. In the future, this will be automatic.
  4. Select someone as the podcast Creator (Approver is currently unused) and upload your audio into the File box.
  5. To assign a title to your podcast, click Add another Podcast Metadatum and set the Key in the box that appears to "title" and the Value to your title.
Don't worry about anything else on the form!
  6. Do the same thing for a podcast description, but with Key as "description".
  7. To assign your own image to the podcast, click Add another Podcast Image Metadatum, set Key to "player_image" and the Value to your image file.
Currently there is no way to use existing images, so you will have to download existing images and reupload them- this is inefficient, we know, but should be fixed before it becomes an issue..
  8. Then do the same for "thumbnail_image" - the former goes onto the player console and the latter goes into the podcast list.
  9. Now press Save and your podcast should upload. Phew!

You can email Computing Team to do this for you, but please be aware that this might take a while.
